Set up and use Coworkies in Slack
Install Coworkies in Slack, connect your account or enter an existing API key, manage jobs, and understand permissions, reconnection and common errors.
My own jobs is deployed for Slack and the hosted MCP server. GPT/ChatGPT and Claude client integrations remain untested and undeployed.
Installation adds the app to a Slack workspace; your personal setup selects My own jobs or a managed Coworkies space. Each person who publishes must connect separately.
Connection and job publication
Connect your active, verified Coworkies account to get started. Choose My own jobs if you hire independently or for a company without a Coworkies space. To manage a space’s jobs, you must be its owner or Team Member (staff).
Job publication is separate: free listings follow Coworkies free-listing rules, while paid jobs use your hiring allowance or require checkout. Connecting does not include unlimited paid posts. Creating or rotating a manual API key requires a managed confirmed Pro space; choose Set up on Coworkies if you do not have a key.
1. Install the Slack app
- Open Coworkies for Slack.
- Select Add to Slack. Installation starts through
https://bot.coworkies.com/slack/installbefore redirecting to Slack. - Choose the intended Slack workspace and review the permissions. Your workspace may require administrator approval.
- Complete installation in the same browser, then open Slack and run
/coworkies setup.
The installation link uses a browser-bound, single-use state that expires after ten minutes. Do not bookmark or reuse the Slack authorization or callback URL.
2. Choose how to connect
Setup shows your current connection first. Expand Show options to see connection choices; First time here? contains onboarding guidance. Each Slack member can connect one hiring account per Slack workspace: their own jobs or one managed space.
No API key: Set up on Coworkies
- Choose Set up on Coworkies.
- Sign in to your own active Coworkies account and verify your email if needed.
- Choose My own jobs, or a confirmed space where you are an owner or Team Member (
staff). - Review and confirm the connection.
- Select Back to Slack, then run
/coworkies newwhen ready.
No existing API key or Pro subscription is required for this account connection. Coworkies creates a separate Slack credential valid for 90 days. Hiring and publication rules still apply.
No space is needed for My own jobs. If a managed space is missing, check its confirmation and your owner/team role. An ordinary space membership is insufficient. Follow Space setup or ask the space owner to grant the appropriate team access.
Already have a key: Enter API key in Slack
- Choose Enter API key in setup.
- Paste a live, ordinary space API key into the private modal.
- Select Check key and review the detected space.
- Select Connect to confirm. Permissions are checked again at confirmation.
The key needs job read/write authority and a key owner who currently manages that confirmed space. Test keys, platform/admin keys and existing assistant credentials are rejected. The pending connection expires after ten minutes. A raw key can belong to only one Slack member/workspace connection; create a dedicated key for each publisher.
The key is visible while you type and passes through Slack. Never send it in a channel or direct message. Coworkies stores the connected copy encrypted; its existing permissions, expiry and request restrictions remain in force. Automated tests cover this route, but a real member’s native-key submission remains unverified.
Holding a manager’s key allows you to use that manager’s authority without independently signing in to Coworkies. Only share a key when you intend to delegate that access.
Find keys under Space Admin Panel → Settings & tools → API Keys. This UI is shown for Pro spaces. See Create and manage keys; if you have no key, use account setup above.
Prefer the website: Use an API key
Choose Set up on Coworkies, then the website’s Use an API key option. Sign in as the key’s owner, enter it in the masked field and confirm. The source key identifies the space; Coworkies issues a separate Slack credential rather than storing that source key as the connection.
This route rejects keys restricted to a network or origin, plus platform/admin, test and assistant keys. The original key is neither adopted nor revoked by this setup.
3. Use the commands
| Command | Result |
|---|---|
/coworkies setup | Check connection status, change hiring account, reconnect or open setup options. |
/coworkies new | Open the job form and choose Free or Standard. Review the details before Post Job and check the returned publication status. |
/coworkies list | Show up to ten active jobs for the connected hiring account. |
/coworkies delete <job_id> | Unpublish a job in the connected hiring account. |
/coworkies help | Show command help. |
/coworkies disconnect | Remove your personal connection in this workspace. |
Creation results are private; channel mentions and list replies may be visible to the channel. Personal connections manage only jobs created by that Coworkies user with no attached space. Space managers can manage the connected space’s jobs, including those created by another Team Member. Matching company names, shared Slack membership or an invoice email never grant access. Edit drafts or change listing plans in My jobs; MCP also supports editing and reposting.
The Slack form currently offers full-time, part-time, freelance and internship. It does not offer contract, although REST/MCP support that distinct type. Do not substitute freelance for a fixed-term contract. City entry is validated by the server. Automatic job extraction from URLs, automatic digests and approval workflows for ordinary members are not available.
Change hiring account or disconnect
Use /coworkies setup to change between personal hiring and an eligible space, or reconnect. Website completion returns you to Slack.
Disconnect affects your connection, not colleagues or already published jobs. For a website-issued credential, revocation is queued. For a key entered directly in Slack, the encrypted copy is removed and the original key remains active. Reinstalling or uninstalling the app invalidates affected personal links and pending drafts; they do not reconnect automatically. A disconnect cannot recall a write already sent upstream.
Personal hiring allowance
Personal hiring API requests share 20 per minute and 1,000 per UTC day per Coworkies user across Slack and MCP, including identity checks. These are request limits, not included paid posts. Reconnecting or adding another Slack workspace does not reset them. Quota storage failures stop personal operations with 503; disconnect remains available.
Choose Free for the existing 30-day basic listing, without paid promotion, or Standard to use hiring credit or complete checkout. Standard is selected by default. A paid draft is not a published job.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Installation link expired or does not match this browser | Start again from the Coworkies Slack page in the same browser. Do not reuse the failed callback tab or a saved authorization URL. |
| No eligible space | Choose My own jobs for personal hiring. For space jobs, verify confirmation and your owner/Team Member role. Slack administration alone is insufficient. |
| Key rejected or access denied | Check key type, job scopes, expiry, restrictions and its owner’s current space role. Use a separate key for each publisher. |
| Connection expired | Run /coworkies setup and reconnect. |
| Job remains a draft or requires payment | Follow the returned result and complete any checkout on Coworkies. Connection permission does not include unlimited publication. |
| Timeout or uncertain result | Check your connected jobs in Coworkies before submitting again; the first write may already have succeeded. |
For a blocked form, HTML security challenge or repeated failure, report the error through Contact support. Do not disable browser security or share credentials. See Permissions for the full access rules.
